Shawn Hornbeck Kidnapping
It was a shocking discovery that prompted an emotional response from even the veteran police officers who made it. Looking for a boy who had been kidnapped four days earlier, they found another boy who had been missing for four years. But the miraculous recovery of the missing teen immediately raised as many questions as it answered. On January 12, 2007, the investigation into the disappearance of a 13-year-old Missouri boyà who was last seen four days before getting off the school bus, resulted in the discovery of Shawn Hornbeck, 15, in an apartment near St. Louis. Police serving an arrest warrant in an apartment complex for another personà spotted a white pickup truck that matched the description of one being sought in the disappearance of Ben Ownby, who was last seen near his home in Beaufort, Missouri, about 60 miles southwest of St. Louis. Why Didnt He Escape? When police served a search warrant on the apartment of Michael Devlin, listed as the owner of the pickup truck, they found Ben Ownby along with Hornbeck, who disappeared in October 2002 while riding his bike in Richwoods, Missouri, about 50 miles southwest of St. Louis. Immediately questions were raised as to how Devlin was able to hold Shawn Hornbeck in an apartment for four years without him being able to get away, although he had several opportunities to escape. Neighbors reported seeing young Hornbeck hanging around outside of his apartment complex, unsupervised. He would also ride along the neighborhood streets on his skateboard or bike, alone or with a friend from the complex. When he was nearing the age to get a drivers license, neighbors saw Devlin giving him driving lessons. Most assumed that they were father and son. Hornbeck also had contact with the police four times during his captivity. One time he spoke to the police after he and his girlfriend discovered that his bike had been stolen while parked outside of a shopping mall.à He also had access to a computer and posted on the website dedicated to Hornbeck that his parents put up. He asked in his post how long they would keep looking for their son and he signed it with the name Shawn Devlin. Why didnt he run away? Why didnt he reach out for help? Deal With the Devil When Michael Devlin pleaded guilty in four different courtrooms to charges related to kidnapping and assaulting the two boys, the answers to those questions were revealed. Shortly after Devlin kidnapped Hornbeck, back in 2002, he planned to kill the boy after repeatedly sexually assaulting him. He took Shawn back to Washington County in his pickup truck, he pulled him from the truck and began to strangle him. I attempted to kill (Shawn) and he talked me out of it, Devlin said. He stopped choking the boy and sexually assaulted him again. In what prosecutors called a deal with the devil, Shawn told Devlin at that time that he would do whatever Devlin wanted him to do to stay alive. We know now the details that made him not run away, said Shawns stepfather, Craig Akers. Over the years, Devlin used many methods to control Shawn. The details of the abuse Shawn endured are so horrific and graphic that it was not released by most media outlets, although the reports were readily available. Devlin admitted to making pornographic photographs and videotapes of Shawn and taking him across state lines to engage in sex acts. To continue to control Shawn, Devlin took him with him when he abducted Ben Ownby in January 2007, telling Shawn that because he was in the truck he was an accomplice to the crime. Shawn Protected Ben Ownby Authorities said Shawn was a hero, who tried to protect Ben Ownby from the torture that he had to endure. Devlin told Shawn that he planned to kill Ownby after keeping him a short time. I think that Shawn Hornbeck is really a hero, Ethan Corlija, one of Devlins attorneys, told reporters. He really threw himself on the sword many times so Ben would not have to go through any undue torture. Devlin entered guilty pleas to dozens of charges in four different courts. At last count, he received 74 life sentences to run consecutively, which will keep him in prison the rest of his life. Were just so glad this is the outcome, that the monster is caged and will remain caged, said Craig Akers.

Cultural And Spatial Levels Of Australian Television
Contemporary Australian television is a heterogeneous site that gives valuable insights into the various tendencies that cohere to make what is considered to be Australiaââ¬â¢s national culture. By examining the different cultural and spatial levels of Australian television, including demographics, ethnicity, stereotypes and global influences, it becomes clear how convoluted the sense of Australian national culture is. This is due to the understanding of Australian culture itself not being a unified category. Therefore, this begs the question of whether the national Australian culture revealed on television is aligned with the national Australian culture that is evident throughout physical reality of society today. As evident within Australian society, Australiaââ¬â¢s culture is made up of stringent and complex sets of ethic, values and beliefs. Due to its multiculturalist outlook there is a strong premise among Australian people that Australians on a whole are very accepting and tolerant people. Additionally, Australianââ¬â¢s believe that as people they themselves are peaceful and laid-back. When dissecting Australian culture most will agree that Australianââ¬â¢s believe in comradeship, ââ¬Ëmateshipââ¬â¢ and the ââ¬Å"fair goâ⬠. However, whilst this idealized image of Australian culture is a prevalent opinion, it is questionable that this image is mirrored within contemporary Australian television. CEP 370 13 December 2012 Inclusion Essay ââ¬Å"Inclusion isnââ¬â¢t a right, itââ¬â¢s a way of livingâ⬠. Written on my floor bulletin board, I was shocked when I first saw this. How is inclusion not a right? Why would someone even write something like this in a public space, knowing that others might take offense to something that was written like that. I was appalled at first but then realized what was written after that. It is a way of living. That is the only part of the statement that I wholeheartedly agree with. For something to not be considered of importance, it must be put into practice everyday, in every moment of every. The reason why inclusion is so difficult is because the world initially began segregated. Starting off withâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦Most of these goals aim to not only help those that have disabilities, but to diversify the education experience of someone that doesnââ¬â¢t have a disability to allow them to see the different types of people that exist in this world (Baglier i Shapiro, 2012, 12-14). The strengths of the medical model is that there is a clear cut diagnosis of a problem and action plan already in place, so there is less time in trying to think of solutions. The negative aspect to this is that children are being placed into solutions that may not fit their specific needs, but is the closest match to help the child out a little bit. The benefit of the social model is that each child gets an individualized plan fit to their needs on making life in the future easier. Itââ¬â¢s goal is to provide life skills, not to just play catch-up. The challenge with this model arises when the population as a whole is not aware of the complexity of having a disability. The general population does not usually stop to think about how difficult it might be for someone with a disability to do basic tasks. Educating the general population about the difficulties and accepting that different people are just as valuable to society is something that will take a lot of time and effor t to not see these differences in society anymore (Baglieri Shapiro, 2012).Show MoreRelatedInclusion Paper1110 Words à |à 5 PagesInclusion is a viewpoint that brings different students, whether able or disabled to create schools and other social institutions based on acceptance, belonging and community. Brand Positioning of Asiatravel Free Essays
Brand Positioning One of the aspects of brand equity is brand positioning. AsiaTravel has not distinguished itself from other competitor in terms of products and services. The company does not have clear view of which market segmentation they want to enter and has not built a good brand image. We will write a custom essay sample on Brand Positioning of Asiatravel or any similar topic only for you Order Now In order to create good brand position in the market, AsiaTravel should look into market segmentation, focuses in point-of-parity (POP) and point-of-difference (POD), and brand image. The current travel industry does not really tap into customersââ¬â¢ demand. Most of the airlines and travel agents compete each other in terms of price, time slot and the number of accessed cities and towns. Therefore, AsiaTravel can differentiate itself by offering packages that suit customersââ¬â¢ preferences by simply asking. Package is no longer fixed. Instead of sticking on one tour, AsiaTravel should guide customers on vacation tour. Secondly, market segmentation can be done to ensure each individual has the best vacation experience. There are many ways to do market segmentation, from demography, lifestyle, and to geography. (CWL Publishing Entreprises, 2009) For AsiaTravel to have a fraction of mind share in customers, it is important of AsiaTravel to know where it wants to stand, either as price leader, quality leader or specialist (CWL Publishing Entreprises, 2009). Brands that stand in the middle of the road get run over. Since many travel agents have not realized the paramount of specialization, AsiaTravel can tap this into opportunity by being quality and specialist leader. Being specialist means the tour guide has to offer besides providing information to customers, security and basic needs. AsiaTravel can sell the country culture that is not written in the book. For instances, mingle and live with the locals. The emotional and experience they get are invaluable. Moreover, tour guide can try to develop a relationship between a group of tourists and among tourists and locals. The purpose is to eventually; each individual has expanded the networking. Travelling is no longer about sightseeing, shopping and et cetera, but also building a network among each other, learning and knowing othersââ¬â¢ culture. Being different increases the POD and the risk of switching cost, and thus leads to stronger brand position while at the same time POD ust not be compromised, as similarity becomes the minimal requirement the travel industry must meet. When the company has evidently differentiated itself from its competitors and clearly conveyed the message to the customers, the brand image will come naturally. However, when it is not managed properly, the brand image cannot leverage the brand equity. To maintain the brand image and brand position, marketing c ommunications programs must ensure customers are exposed to the all the brand elements and brand associations. Brand has to be treated like human beings possess a variety trait of characteristics (Customer Manufacturing Group, 2006). By understanding the brand personality, marketers get the whole picture of brand identity and easier to conveying the message consistently. (Customer Manufacturing Group, 2006) From the marketing program and brand positioning strategy, it is clear that AsiaTravel aims to focus customersââ¬â¢ preferences, being unique, caring, warmth, fun, friendly and also ensures everybody has the best pleasant vacation experience. Moreover, since AsiaTravel primarily focuses on young adults and only fly within Asia, it is an energetic, flexible, proud to be Asian and affordable brand. Therefore, it is a new brand image that AsiaTravel aims to build and maintain to be top leading organization in the travel industry. Bibliography Customer Manufacturing Group, 2006. Free Will In The Great Divorce Essay Example For Students
Free Will In The Great Divorce Essay C. S. Lewisââ¬â¢s message concerning free will is that God helps the oneââ¬â¢s willing to convert and that each person that is saved must take the first step towards his salvation by wanting all sin out of his life. He believes each person is presented with a choice that will determine their salvation. This choice is whether or not they want to continue living in sin or if they want to live for God. They must give their permission for their sin to be destroyed, for it can only be done from their will, â⬠I canââ¬â¢t kill it against your will. It is impossible. Have I your permission? â⬠(99). By giving oneââ¬â¢s permission the process of salvation will begin. Although it may be hard or even painful they must choose to rid themselves of their sin to obtain everlasting life. It is very tough to give your permission to rid something that you have lived forever with, but that is the choice one must make. For example, A man wanted his lizard, which represents his sin, to be quiet, but when he learned that it would entail killing it he became scared and quickly changed his mind because he was afraid it would hurt. After a while he gave his permission, but it took a while because it was hard to overcome his fear. At one point he suggested he could keep his sin in order and that â⬠the gradual process would be far better than killing it. â⬠(98) because he was fearful of living without his sin. This same fear can cause other men not to give their permission to let their sin destroyed. Lewis also believes many men, when given the choice, will choose eternal damnation over God because of something they value more than Him. Many will choose a sin they feel that they cannot live without rather than sit next to His ide in heaven. They would rather go to hell and keep whatever it is they value so much than lose it, â⬠Heââ¬â¢d fight to the death to keep it. Heââ¬â¢d like well to be able to scratch: but even when he can scratch no more heââ¬â¢d rather itch than not. â⬠(70). It is his will that he would have some remembrance or longing for the sin he once clanged to than have eternal peace with God. Others will fill a hole in their heart that should belong to God with a loved one or some other physical thing. For example, one woman cared not for God, but only for her son who died arlier and she failed to realize that she will not truly love her son until she realizes God is who she should love the most and he is her sonââ¬â¢s true loved one. By doing this she, and others that do this, put the thing they love so much over God, and in the end choose it over God, â⬠The choice of every lost soul can be expressed in the words ââ¬Ë Better to reign in Hell than serve in Heaven. ââ¬â¢ There is always something they insist on keeping, even at the price of misery. There is always something they prefer to joy-that is, to reality. Ye see its easily enough n a spoiled child that would sooner miss its play and its supper than say it was sorry and be friends. â⬠(69). They would rather ââ¬Å"reign in hellâ⬠by keeping that thing that fills the void in their soul instead of filling it with what is supposed to go there: God. Others however realized the choice they must make and choose God and eternal happiness. Those that understand to get salvation they must have their sins destroyed make it their will to be done and God makes it happen. They truly want to be happy and realize for this to happen they must rid themselves of all vil, â⬠It is only the little germ of a desire for God that we need to start the process. The Dumbest Generation Response free essay sample
Mark Bauerlein says we are the dumbest generation, and he has many things to make it seem like we are, however most people disagree with him, especially our generation. He says were the dumbest generation because of all the technology thatââ¬â¢s in our lives. He also says that we were born with less intelligence than older generations like our parents and grandparents. Mark Bauerlein says weââ¬â¢re the dumbest generation because we test a lot lower than other generations. Scoring low on tests doesnââ¬â¢t mean were dumb, itââ¬â¢s because we arenââ¬â¢t interested in testing and donââ¬â¢t try on the tests. If kids and teens actually put full effort into the school testing Iââ¬â¢m sure we would score a lot higher than older generations, but nobody sees that except for us because they donââ¬â¢t understand. Testing isnââ¬â¢t a big deal and we shouldnââ¬â¢t be judged on being interested in the testing that schools expect us to try our best on. We will write a custom essay sample on The Dumbest Generation Response or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page Electronics are bad for peoples health at high usages, there are kids and teens everywhere being thrown into rehab facilities for their horrible electronic dependencies, these dependencies are mostly in Korea and China and those places where they are taught to use electronics and computers in school at a very young age. Some parents of these children worry about the health and well being of their child and want to get them special help so they can live their lives without constantly playing video games or being online (digital nation). On average we spend less then 10 minutes reading and when we read itââ¬â¢s usually a magazine or some internet site. This is because we donââ¬â¢t have the same types of resources as we used to. For example, years ago students had to use the library and study out of a book to do homework and other projects, but now we just hop on the computer and look it up on google. Our literacy is declining at a drastic rate and people say it needs to be stopp ed. Just because we donââ¬â¢t read at a high level doesnââ¬â¢t make us dumb and doesnââ¬â¢t mean were the dumbest generation. It means we donââ¬â¢t have the same practices as the past because things are evolving and changing drastically. Every day there are really smart people building computers, and we have a lot more technology now then we used to because of the smart people in our generation. Not because of the dumb people in our generation. It takes geniuses to program the software for computers and to build computers. If we were the dumbest generation we would not have access to these types of things. Our schooling systems are not as good as they used to be either, but itââ¬â¢s not our generations fault that teachers arenââ¬â¢t doing a good job teaching and canââ¬â¢t control us. The teachers and other generations expect us to be just like they are, but all people and generations are different and it would be ridiculous to say that weââ¬â¢re dumb just bec ause teachers suck at teaching sometimes. They expect us to use computers in our daily life in homework and then criticize us using technology. Not cool. Those are my reasons for why we arenââ¬â¢t the dumbest generation, because we have strong intellectual abilities and the generation ahead of us is dumber than we are for expecting us to be super smart when we donââ¬â¢t even get taught the things the older generations were taught like how to use the public library and search things out of books and such. Korean Sample Essay
Korean Sample EssayKorean sample essays are available to help you find the right student for a given position in your classroom. Although not every school has these Korean sample essays to help students understand and write Korean, there are plenty of them on the internet. The level of research that goes into these is very extensive, as one must know what type of writer they are, the research they can expect to get from this written work, and of course the exact areas of knowledge to focus on.Each state has its own guidelines for determining what the appropriate writing samples are for each particular school, but one should start with the most popular. You will find there is a larger number of these than school districts; however, they are more expensive and even harder to get. Many of these are also not taught at the elementary level, although some do teach children in grade schools. There are three types of sample essays you will find on the internet, each offering a slightly differ ent style. The first type is a very general one, much like a description or an introduction. This is really one of the best types of essay for anyone, so long as they have an overall writing skill that matches. They may be quite simple, but they are very effective. These may also include those of school children whose parents are still alive, as those parents' last name was 'Kim' before Kim Jung-Il changed it to Kim Il-Sung's family members had full control over their younger siblings. This became a problem for many younger children when they discovered their parents had abandoned them and would often encourage them to commit suicide. For this reason, the level of research for this essay is much lower. The second type is an online dictionary. There are dictionaries that have sample essays to help with spelling and grammar and a person's grammar, and there are others to help with basic information like names and geographic location. This essay is useful for those without any college ed ucation, and has a good track record. The third type is an essay that will truly challenge the student. It usually starts with how one can use the English language to create words in the Korean language. After that, the essay will ask students to describe the events that led to their current situation and how they would apply those to work for them in their future. With the support and help of a support group, this type of essay is considered one of the best, as it allows for the student to see the entire range of situations that they can experience.Korean sample essays can be purchased online, but usually by having them sent directly to your students is easier and less expensive. This helps ensure the student that the material they are learning has a particular purpose, and one that will make a real difference in their life.
